Peace Poster Winners

Presentation of the Peace Poster winners

For over three decades, Lions clubs around the globe have been sponsoring a very special art contest in schools and youth groups.

Creating peace posters gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity.

For the first time the Guernsey Lions Club are taking part in this global competition.

The Peace Poster competition is for 11, 12 and 13-year olds who design a picture symbolising Peace.

During the last 20 years more that 4 million children from 100 countries have participated in the contest.

The local competition closed on 15 October with over 30 posters received from La Mare Carteret High School.

Initial judging of the posters took place at the Sch00l and the teachers submitted a final ten posters to the Guernsey Lions.

Judging then took place with Lions President, Rob Holder, Lions Youth Chair, Paul Allaway and Lions Youth committee member Samantha Horsepool being the Judges.

After much discussion and consideration two posters were selected to go through to the district final in the South of England.

Prizes were awarded to the two winners, Kia Murphy and Alex Queripel at the school assembly held earlier this week.

Winners from each District Final go through to the UK Final and all District winners are invited to attend UN day at the Houses of Parliament in March with their parents.

The International judging takes place in January where the Grand Prize winner is invited to a special award ceremony at Lions Day with the United Nations in New York.

The Guernsey Lions Club would like to thank La Mare De Carteret for supporting this competition and look forward to working with them and with other schools in the Bailiwick in 2020 when the next competion will be launched.
